embecta Ultra-Fine Pen Needles, BD Becton Dickinson

PRODUCT DETAILS

BD Ultra-Fine U100 Insulin Pen Needles, are engineered to be thinner and smoother for a more comfortable and less painful injection. Becton Dickinson Ultra-Fine™ needles are sculpted to create a flatter, thinner surface that helps penetrate the skin with significantly greater ease for a smoother and gentler injection. Electro-polishing away microscopic burrs gives every needle a smooth finish. Every Ultra-Fine™ pen needle tip is cut as finely as possible for easier penetration using a 5-bevel cut for a sharper point. Clinical trials support improved patient comfort, easier insertion and overall preference.

BD is now embecta

BD (Becton Dickinson) has officially rebranded its Diabetes Care division as embecta. While the name and packaging may look different, rest assured that the products themselves have not changed. They are manufactured in the same facilities, using the same materials, and follow the same rigorous quality standards you've come to trust from BD. The part numbers (NDC/HRI) remain valid and now include NRC codes for updated pharmacy systems. We now ship only embecta-branded products going forward. For more details about this transition including updated packaging, product codes, and FAQs—please read our full article.

Difference between Retail Box and Mail Order (MO) Box

While both options contain the same high-quality BD Ultra-Fine U100 Pen Needles the key differences come down to packaging and quantity:

  • Retail Box: Comes in a more consumer-friendly, visually appealing package, typically found in retail stores. This version includes 100 pen needles per box and is priced slightly higher due to its premium packaging.
  • Mail Order (MO) Box: Designed for bulk shipping and insurance-covered orders, this box is less decorative but equally functional, containing 90 pen needles per box at a more budget-friendly price.

While both options contain the same high-quality BD Ultra-Fine U100 Pen Needles, the MO Box is a cost-effective alternative for those who don’t mind simpler packaging.

Safe Use and Disposal Reminder

Always dispose of single-use needles immediately after use in a proper sharps container. Never throw used needles in the trash, recycling bin, or flush them down the toilet. Using an approved sharps container helps prevent injury, contamination, and the spread of infection. Be sure to follow local regulations for sharps disposal.

Pen Device Compatibility

embecta Ultra-Fine Pen Needles are designed for universal fit with most “Type A” pen injector devices. They are compatible with leading insulin pen brands and models from Novo Nordisk, Lilly, Berlin Chemie, Sanofi Aventis, Owen Mumford, and other widely used pen systems, offering flexibility and easy integration into your diabetes care routine.

How to Choose the Right Pen Needle Size

Choosing the correct pen needle size depends on several factors, including your body type, injection site, and overall comfort. Shorter needles are often effective for subcutaneous insulin delivery and may reduce discomfort.

  • Needle Gauge: The gauge refers to the needle's thickness. Higher gauge numbers mean thinner needles. For example, a 33G (0.20 mm) needle is thinner than a 31G (0.25 mm) needle, which can offer a more comfortable injection experience.
  • Needle Length: Common options include 5/32 in (4 mm), 3/16 in (5 mm), 15/64 in (6 mm), and 5/16 in (8 mm). Shorter needles, such as 5/32 in (4 mm) and 3/16 in (5 mm), are often preferred for ease of use and are suitable for most users when used with proper technique.

Consult your healthcare provider to determine the most appropriate gauge and length based on your individual needs and injection technique.

Safe Needle Use and Disposal

Always use pen needles as instructed by your healthcare provider. Never reuse needles or syringes. After each use, dispose of needles properly in a designated sharps container to prevent injury or infection.

Pen Needle Storage and Handling

Store pen needles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Always keep them sealed in their original packaging until ready for use. For specific storage guidelines and expiration details, refer to the manufacturer’s instructions or product information sheet included with your purchase.
